Japanese Pork Tonkatsu

INGREDIENTS

For Pork

  • 1 thin sliced pork

  • 1 tsp kosher salt

  • ΒΌ tsp ground black pepper

  • Β½ cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 egg, beaten

  • 1 cup panko Japanese breadcrumbs

  • 2 cups cooking oil

For Tonkatsu Sauce

  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1 tbsp ketchup

  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce

  • 1 tsp sugar

For Serving & Garnishing

  • Cooked Japanese rice

  • Green onion, chopped

  • Toasted sesame seeds

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Pound the thin sliced pork to flatten, then season the pork with salt and ground black pepper.

  • Next, Coat the chicken with flour, beaten egg, and the panko breadcrumbs. Set the coated pork aside.

  • Heat 2 cups of cooking oil in a frying pan and fry the coated pork until golden brown on each side. Take out the pork and drain the excess oil on a paper towel.

  • Prepare for the Tonkatsu sauce in a small bowl. Set aside.

  • Cut the pork katsu and transfer it to a bowl of steamed rice.

  • Drizzle the Tonkatsu sauce over the pork katsu and sprinkle some chopped green onion and toasted sesame seeds.
